Independent artist and creative director, Janice is the daughter of a semi-literate mother, raised in São Gonçalo, a peripheral region of Rio de Janeiro state. They became a mother of her first child at the age of 17 and at 19, they gave birth to her second daughter.

Despite all the challenges, they became a self-taught researcher at a young age. Their creations are multiple and diverse, mixing materials and languages in the construction of their own narrative.

Currently explores digital art, video performances, installation artworks, braiding, painting and sculpture. They work is crossed by them experiences and feelings, their productions bring up tensions generated by  motherhood and the black body in diaspora. Recounting stories of a collective past and flirting with the creation of a new future, it’s possible to say that Janice is a potent exponent of the newest Brazilian Afrofuturism.
